A few weeks ago we began a new series in kids Church called “Soul Food” that talks about what things we should be feeding our souls. We purchased it from High Voltage Kids. We wanted to have a fun engaging stage design for this series so we got to work right away.
A group of moms in the church where happy to help with painting a 16 foot long kitchen backdrop on foam board.
Foam board has become my favorite building supply when it comes to kids stage design. Its’s light and very easy to move on and off stage from week to week. You can pick up foam board from your local Lowes or Home Depot in a variety of sizes and thicknesses. For this stage backdrop we used 8’x4′ sheets of 1” foam board. It costs about $15 a sheet.
We found a picture on google images that we liked and the ladies projected it onto the foam board.

Once they had finished tracing it out with sharpie and the correct paint colors were picked up, they began painting.

In only two nights they had it completely finished!

To add to the stage design we purchased several inflatable food pool floats to place around the backdrop!

We also wanted to add a puppet that would help with the memory verse each week. This meant we needed a puppet stage. Using scrap 2x4s and paneling I was able to build a simple puppet stage designed to look like a kitchen island.

Add a quick touch of paint…

Once it was all placed on stage we were happy to see all the pieces come together!

Hope this gave you some good ideas in case you ever do a food related kids series in the future.
